Legal Aid of Southeastern Pennsylvania is looking for volunteers.
MCPA’s Pro Bono & Community Outreach Committee met with Mike Kelly from LASP. We discussed pro bono opportunities where Mike/LASP thought paralegals or paralegal students could assist LASP and their clients. Mike mentioned that they could use volunteers to help with pro se landlord/tenant appeals, navigating department of labor website/contact department for status of claims, simple wills, living wills, POAs and public benefits/social security.
He also mentioned that LASP plans to host an ID/Birth Certificate clinic on April 30, 2021 and they have an attorney who also holds expungement clinics where they could see a benefit to having paralegals volunteer. All of these events/tasks would be done virtually, with specific training provided as to the task at hand.
Our goal is to provide LASP with a general list of members who are interested in any or many of the above opportunities, so that Mike or another member of LASP can reach out to the group at large as a paralegal friendly assignment is received. We hope to distribute a flyer soon for the ID clinic and will make you aware of any future expungement clinics.
If you are interested in being added to the pool of potential paralegal volunteers or have any questions, please e-mail me at djorna@kanepugh.com. Please make sure to include your preferred area of law/task (if applicable), and email address.
